David Fincher was born in 1962 in Denver, Colorado, and was raised in Marin County, California. When he was 18 years old, he went to work for 'John Korty' at Korty Films in Mill Valley. He subsequently worked at ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) from 1981 - 1983. Fincher left ILM to direct TV commercials and music videos after signing with N. Lee Lacy in Hollywood. He went on to found Propaganda in 1987 with fellow directors 'Dominic Sena', 'Greg Gold' and 'Nigel Dick'. Fincher has directed TV commercials for clients that include: Nike, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Heinekin, Pepsi, Levi's, Converse, AT & T, and Chanel. I went to a place called the Berkley Film Institute for a summer program with a grade school friend of mine, and we just thought it was a joke. It was very impressionist, very Berkley. There were all these people who were there to communicate and change the world, to do all these lofty things -- and then they made these really shitty, stupid little movies. And we were kind of like, "I'm not here for this, I'm just here to pull cable." We were the youngest people there and we ended up being the grips and electrics on everybody else's movies, and it was pretty good those six or seven weeks, we got to shoot Panaflex cameras and make a married print - it was in black and white and you made these little cheese-ball movies, but at least you were making "something." I have a philosophy about the two extremes of filmmaking. The first is the "Kubrick way," where you're at the end of an alley in which four guys are kicking the shit out of a wino. Hopefully, the audience members will know that such a scenario is morally wrong, even though it's not presented as if the viewer is the one being beaten up; it's more as if you're witnessing an event. Inversely, there's the "Spielberg way," where you're dropped into the middle of the action and you're going to live the experience vicariously - not only through what's happening, but through the emotional flow of what people are saying. It's a much more involved style. I find myself attracted to both styles at different times, but mostly I'm interested in just presenting something and letting people decide for themselves what they want to look at.
I have demons you can't even imagine.
I'm totally anti-commercialism. I would never do commercials where people hold the product by their head and tell you how great it is, I just wouldn't do that stuff. It's all inference ... The Levis commercials I did weren't really about jeans, the Nike commercials weren't about shoes. The 'Instant Karma' spot was some of the better stuff I got offered, and it was never about people going, "Buy this shoe, this shoe will change everything," because I think that's nonsense. Anybody looking outside themselves to make themselves whole is delusional and probably sick.
People will say, 'There are a million ways to shoot a scene,' but I don't think so. I think there're two, maybe. And the other one is wrong.

Marsha Thomason was born and raised in Manchester, England. Her love for acting began after watching the musical Bugsy Malone. Soon after, aged twelve, she joined Oldham Theatre Workshop, where she performed many diverse stage plays, including 'Our Day Out' by Willy Russell and 'Peace' by Aristophones. What began as a hobby soon helped her achieve her first professional acting job at the age of fourteen, when she starred in 'The 8:15 from Manchester' (BBC 1). Marsha took 'A' levels in English Language, Media Studies and Theatre Studies before studying for her BA in English at Manchester Metropolitan University. Whilst at university, Marsha won the role of Janice Lafferty in Prime Suspect 5: Errors of Judgement (1996) (TV) alongside 'Helen Mirren', and later the same year, she appeared in Brazen Hussies (1996) (TV) with 'Julie Walters (I)' and 'Robert Lindsay (II)'. Many parts followed, including Sally in the BBC's popular series, "Pie in the Sky" (1994). Aged twenty, Marsha moved to London's Notting Hill to take the role of Shazza Pearce in "Playing the Field" (1998), in which she played a beer-swilling, drug-taking soccer player. This was a role close to her heart as a life-long Manchester City supporter. After the first series of "Playing the Field" (1998), Marsha also starred as Nurse Jacqui Richards in "Where the Heart Is" (1997). She appeared in both programmes simultaneously for three years. At this point, she was spotted by Red Productions and appeared in "Love in the 21st Century" (1999), a series of six adult morality tales. Marsha fulfilled a life-long dream of starring in London's West End when she made her professional stage debut in 'Breath Boom' at the Royal Court Theatre. The play was also the debut of Marsha's American accent, as her character was a fifteen-year-old prostitute from New York whose dream of acceptance was to belong to a girl gang. Marsha's first foray into feature film was the Working Title production Long Time Dead (2002), a British horror film also starring 'Lukas Haas' and 'Alec Newman'. Her career then took her to America where she has continued to work in film with roles as diverse as Victoria in Black Knight (2001) starring 'Martin Lawrence (I)', and Brandy in Miramax's My Baby's Daddy (2004). She returned to England for the independent feature, Pure (2002), directed by 'Gillies MacKinnon'. Considered her most ambitious role to date, Marsha played Vicki, a cockney heroin-addicted prostitute. Whilst still in England, Marsha returned to Red Productions for the first series of the critically acclaimed "Burn It" (2003). In 2002, Marsha was awarded Best Actress in Film at the BFM awards. She recently appeared in the Disney feature The Haunted Mansion (2003) in which she starred opposite 'Eddie Murphy (I)'.

He was born in a middle-class family in Lund, where his father was an ethnologist. When he was in high school, he and a few fellow students, including 'Yvonne Lombard', started a theatre club which encouraged his interest in acting. After conscription he began to study at the Royal Dramatic Theatre's acting school (1948-1951), together with 'Lars Ekborg', 'Margaretha Krook' and 'Ingrid Thulin'. His first role was as Nils the crofter in 'Alf Sjöberg''s Bara en mor (1949). After graduation he worked at the city theatres in Norrkoeping and Malmö. His work in the movies by 'Ingmar Bergman' made him well-known internationally, and he started to get offers from abroad. His career abroad began with The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) and Hawaii (1966). Since then, his career includes very different kind of characters, like Emperor Ming in Flash Gordon (1980) or the artist Frederick in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986). In 1987 he made his directing debut with Ved vejen (1988). He has become one of Sweden's most admired and professional actors.

When we were filming 'The Greatest Story' we were in Utah and many of the people on the set expected me to behave like Jesus all the time, day and night. But it's not method acting, is it? I couldn't have my wife visit me openly because Jesus was not married, and I couldn't take a drink and relax when I was Christ. It's much easier now.
I don't think they [Bergman's roles] were written for me as a personality. Many of his characters through the years have been related: there are those who want to believe but cannot, and there are those who believe like children and it's no problem for them at all, and there are those who do not want to believe, and there are the strains between these various characters and their conflicts, which are all probably conflicts within Ingmar himself.
Acting is such a weird profession. It's such a futile thing. Even when it's there on film, there's nothing really to it. It is not like making a piece of furniture or writing a book.
At home [in Sweden], the actor's profession was not considered particularly reputable, but being an actor or star in a Hollywood film was something very important in American eyes. Then I slowly realized that as an actor in Sweden you were allowed to be involved in some kind of artistic project which could be a flop and yet still be justifiable if it carried artistic weight and ambitions. In Hollywood, on the other hand, if you do not succeed you are nobody. You become a mere piece of paper with a figure on it. You are just as good-or bad-as your last film was financially. And while Sweden remains sufficiently small for you to work in, say, Malmö and still make films in Stockholm, in the States you either work in Hollywood or you live somewhere else and you work for the legitimate theater.
Many persons believe that an actor must identify himself with his role. I do not do that, although I do become involved with my parts while I play them. But I find it a virtue to do things which are not of myself. This is the Swedish concept of an actor.

Bass designed many of the key scenes in Psycho (1960), including the infamous shower scene censors had the filmmakers re-edit a great many times because it was unacceptable. (There are 70 camera set ups in the that scene, which lasts only a couple of minutes and took a week to shoot!)
In the opening credits to Cape Fear (1991), Bass superimposed shots from the title sequence he did for 'John Frankenheimer''s Seconds (1966).
It has been said that once you see the opening titles to a film that Saul Bass has done, you can walk out of the theatre because you know exactly what the film's about: he has shown you the entire thing in the first minute or so.

Saul Bass was born in New York City in 1920. He is known as one of the best ever graphic designers for film, as he has created the credits and title sequences of over 60 films, he has often worked with directors Martin Scorsese, and especially Alfred Hitchcock on his very famous film Psycho, of which he co-directed the very famous shower scene. His skills have intrigued audience all over as film critic say that you could tell what was going to happen in a film for which Saul designed the titles. He has had a long lasting and successful career, helping out with visual concepts, storyboards but most importantly the titles for the bigger cinematic hits of the 20th century. Saul died in 1996.

What makes a Tony Curtis performance so compelling is you never know what to expect. Tony Curtis has always been an actor who has refused to play it safe, and has devoted his working life to performing in a vast array of characters, as Curtis has alternatively played the handsome leading man, the sidekick, the comic relief, the villain and a host of other roles that demonstrate how versatile he is. Yet what stands out about all his performances in the inner vulnerability and humility he finds in his unsympathetic characters and the never-say-die attitude of the heroes he plays. However, his unique ability to tap into what makes his characters tick comes as no surprise, seeing as how Curtis' own life was also one of triumph over adversity and fighting the odds. Curtis was born Bernard Schwartz on the 3rd of June, 1925, the eldest of three children to immigrant parents, Emanuel and Helen Schwartz. Curtis himself admits that while he had almost no formal education, he was a student of the "school of hard knocks", and learned from a young age that the only person who ever had his back was himself, so he learned how to take care of both himself and younger brother Julius. Curtis grew up in poverty, as his father Emanuel, who worked as a tailor, had the sole responsibility of providing for his entire family on his meager income. This led to constant bickering between Curtis' parents over money, and Curtis began to go to movies as a way of briefly escaping the constant worries of poverty and other family problems. The financial strain of raising two children on a meager income became so tough that in 1935 Curtis' parents decided that their children would have a better life under the care of the state, and briefly had Tony and his brother admitted to an orphanage. During this lonely time the only companion Curtis had was his brother Julius, and the two became inseparable as they struggled to get used to this new way of life. Weeks later Curtis' parents came back to reclaim custody of Tony and his brother , but by then Curtis had learned one of life's toughest lessons: the only person you can count on is yourself. In 1938, shortly before Tony had his bar mitzvah, tragedy struck when Tony lost the person most important to him, when his brother Julius was killed after being hit by a truck. After this tragedy, Curtis' parents became convinced that a formal education was the best way that Tony could avoid the same "never knowing where your next meal is coming from" life that they had. However, Tony rejected this as he felt that learning about literary classics and algebra wasn't going to advance him in life as much as some real hands-on life experience would. Tony was to find this real life experience a few years later when he enlisted in the Marines in 1942. Tony spent the next three years getting the life experience he desired, as he did everything from working as a crewman on a submarine to honing his future craft as an actor by performing as a sailor in a stage play at the Navy Signalman School in Illinois. In 1945 Curtis was honorably discharged from the navy and when he realized that the GI Bill would allow him to go to acting school without paying for it, Tony now saw that his lifelong pipe-dream of being an actor might actually be achievable. Tony auditioned for the New York Dramtic Workshop, and after being accepted on the strength of his audition piece (A scene from 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' in pantomime) Tony enrolled in early 1947. Tony then began to pay his dues by appearing in a slew on stage productions, including "Twelfth Night" and "Golden Boy". Tony then saw a small theatrical agent named Joyce Selznick, who was the niece of film producer David Selznick. After seeing his potential, Sleznick arranged an interview for Tony to see David Selznick at Universal Studios, where Tony was offered a seven year contract. After changing his name to what he saw as an elegant, mysterious moniker 'Tony Curtis' (Named after the novel 'Anthony Adverse' by Harvey Allen and a cousin of Tony's named Janush Kertiz), Tony began making a name for himself by appearing in small, offbeat roles in small-budget productions. Tony's first notable performance was a two minute role in 'Criss Cross' (1949), with Burt Lancaster, in which he makes Lancaster jealous by dancing with Yvonne De Carlo. This off-beat role resulted in Curtis being typecast as heavies for the next few years, such as playing a gang-member in 'City Across the River'. Curtis continued to build up a show-reel by accepting any paying job, as he acted in a number of bit-part roles for the next few years. It wasn't until late 1949 that Tony finally got the chance to demonstrate his acting flair, as he was cast in an important role in an Action-Western, Sierra (1950). On the strength of his performance in this, Tony was finally cast in a big-budget movie, Winchester '73 (1950). While Tony only appears in this movie very briefly, it was a chance to for him to act alongside a Hollywood legend, Jimmy Stewart. As his career developed, Curtis wanted to act in movies that had some kind of social relevance, movies that would challenge audiences, so he began to appear in movies such as Spartacus and The Defiant Ones. Tony was advised against appearing as the subordinate sidekick in Spartacus, playing second fiddle to the equally as famous Kirk Douglas. However, Curtis saw no problem with this as the had recently acted together in dual leading roles in The Vikings. Off-Screen, Curtis became equally famous for his romantic escapades, as he had relationships with a number of famous actresses, including Natalie Wood, Marilyn Monroe, and of course, Janet Leigh. Despite having worked in movies for sixty years, Curtis' performances continue to resonate with the same spark they had when he was just starting out. It's been said that the closet thing America has to royalty are genuine movie stars, and Curtis is a prime example of one. Despite having an extremely tough childhood full of tragedy, much like many of the characters he has portrayed, Curtis refused to do what was expected of him and follow his father's footsteps, and all of his experiences, whether it be the death of his brother or living in an orphanage, contributed to Curtis' driving ambition that would not sway.

Writer/Producer David G. Knappe resides in New York City. After graduating with a BA and MA from William Paterson University, Knappe was hired as producer for DuPont's External Affairs Division working in conjunction with BBDO on Stainmaster and Teflon spots. He provided production support for the company's signature events such as the Tour DuPont for CBS Sports and LPGA coverage for ABC Sports. He was born in the back of a Chevy station wagon one starry night in September being driven by his late father, blazing across the desolate west Texas prairie trying to find any town with a hospital. Unable to locate either a small town or a hospital in time, his dad took command, just as he'd done for four consecutive years of war in the Pacific Theater as a naval lieutenant, and delivered Danny while his mother held a flashlight on herself as he was being born. Since then he has been in the spotlight for much of his life. When he was five years old he knew he wanted to be an actor in movies. Beginning at the age of seven, on Saturday mornings in the small Texas town where he was reared, his mother would put him on a Continental Trailways Bus (being driven by "Red") bound for Houston, Texas, to study with a later known national authority in children's theater, the late 'Jeannine Wagner', at the original facility for the now famous Alley Theater. His life began to revolve around theater. When he was ten, having seen 'James Cagney' portraying 'Lon Chaney' in Man of a Thousand Faces (1957), he knew his goal - if he were to act in movies as he had dreamed, it was to become a character actor. With the recommendation and support of his fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. McCoy, at the age of ten he was offered the opportunity to study theater in the summer at Southwest Texas University in San Marcos, Texas. He was the youngest student ever admitted to the university's summer theater program and attended it every summer for six years. At 16 teen he was offered, and accepted, the opportunity to direct. All the other directors in the program were either graduate students at the university or high school drama teachers from across Texas. He remained very active in speech and theater in high school, winning numerous local, regional and state competitions as a speaker, debater and in theater. When he was a junior in high school he was scouted by the theater department at the University of Texas and offered a full scholarship. Instead, he entered Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, to work with famed director Paul Baker, but graduated from Emerson College in Boston. Danny did not act in his first film or television project until he had graduated from law school, and become a renowned assistant district attorney in Corpus Christi, Texas, then an accomplished Assistant US Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, and was already in private practice as a lawyer. While he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney he pioneered the federal criminal prosecutions of film piracy (criminal copyright infringement) in the United States Fifth Circuit, and is responsible for initiating the now well known anti-piracy warning appearing at the beginning of all commercial videotapes and DVDs. That successful anti-piracy initiative earned him the prestigious John Marshall Award from the U.S. Department of Justice, presented to him during special ceremonies in Washington, DC, by the United States Attorney General, the late William French Smith. A short biography of his career as a lawyer was published in the 1985/1986 edition of "Who's Who in American Law". What drove Danny back into theater and later to pursue a career in film and television was the early death of his father. It was then Danny realized that life was short, and since one never knows when your ticket is going to get punched, he decided to fulfill is unrealized ambit8ion. He tested the waters, first returning to the stage as an actor in theater once again, and then he was offered a co-star role in his first television movie The Return of Desperado (1988) (TV) starring 'Robert Foxworth' and 'Billy Dee Williams', on NBC. While Danny makes his home in Houston, Texas, he works all over North America, including Canada, and maintains a national visibility as an award-winning published stills photographer. He has been awarded the Kodak International Photography Award for his work in black and white, and was once named Texas Photographer of the Year by Texas Tech Univeristy in Lubbock, TX. When he's not working as an actor in film or on television, he hires out shooting stills for events, portraits, headshots and fine art photography. In late 2005 Danny founded a state-wide non-profit organization to combat elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of vulnerable elderly people in domestic environments. It is called Carolyn's Hope. Named for his late mother, Carolyn Tucker Kamin, who died as a result of elder abuse (was murdered) in March of 2003.

"I was on this remote island a thousand miles off the coast of Kenya. The island didn't have electricity, but some people had generators, and I went to someone's house and there was a video of Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) playing. I think it was the only frigging television on the whole island. That was very bizarre".
There was one moment in high school where I thought, "Maybe I'll take an acting class." And I walked in and saw all the quote unquote theatre people and I went, "Oh God," and walked out. But later, when I was 19, I actually took an acting class and I was very much smitten with it.

Lea Thompson Mini Biography

Lea Katherine Thompson was born May 31, 1961 in Rochester, Minnesota. She is the youngest of five children. Her parents are Barbara and Cliff Thompson. Since all her siblings were much older than her, Lea says it seemed like she had more than two parents. The family lived in the Starlight motel, all the kids sharing a room. Things began to look up for the family when Lea's father got a job in Minneapolis, where the family moved. Lea's parents divorced when she was six, and her mother decided to maintain the family. This wasn't the easiest job considering her mother was alcohol addicted at the time. When she found the strength to quit drinking, she took a job playing the piano and singing in a bar to support Lea and her siblings. When Lea was seven, her mother remarried. Ever since Lea was little, she loved to dance. Ballet to be exact. She would practice three to four hours every day. Her first role was a mouse in The Nutcracker. After Lea turned fourteen, she had performed in more than forty-five ballets on stages such as The Minnesota Dance Theatre, The Pennsylvania Ballet Company, and The Ballet Repertory. She won scholarships to The American Ballet Theatre and The San Francisco Ballet. At age nineteen, she auditioned for 'Mikhail Baryshnikov', who later told her that she was "a beautiful dancer... but too stocky." Lea knew her dreams had been crushed. At that point, she decided to turn to acting. She began working as a waitress, also making twenty-two Burger King commercials and a few Twix commercials. She was perfect for these parts simply because she was the average girl-down-the-street from the Midwest. Everyone who knows her can't believe she was and still is so completely different...trying to be independent and fight against the system. In 1982, Lea made some type of a computer game or interactive movie known as Murder, Anyone. Her first role was in the movie Jaws 3-D (1983) as a water ski bunny, although she couldn't swim or ski, which she still can't! There she met 'Dennis Quaid', who became her fiancée and acting coach. Her next role was in All the Right Moves (1983) where she acted opposite 'Tom Cruise'. Director 'Michael Chapman (I)' was so disappointed with her performance, that he almost fired her. Between 1983 and 1984, Lea appeared in other "teen" movies such as Red Dawn (1984), The Wild Life (1984), and Going Undercover (aka Yellow Pages (1988)), and believes it was lucky that in these movies they were able to use anyone who could walk and talk! Lea's biggest known accomplishment, and her big break, came from the first Back to the Future (1985). It was the biggest hit of 1985, and Lea was suddenly the most wanted actress. She could have her pick of any role she wanted to take on. She did - and made the worst choice of her life, Howard the Duck (1986). Although it was a 'George Lucas' production, the critics turned the movie, and Lea, down. Afterwards, director 'Howard Deutch' offered Lea a part in his movie, Some Kind of Wonderful (1987), but she refused. After he urged her to do it, she reconsidered. She won the Young Artist Award for best young actress. During filming, Howard and Lea fell in love, and she called it off with Dennis. She then went on to film The Wizard of Loneliness (1988), which was her first movie as a woman, rather than a youngster. Lea went on to film Back to the Future Part II (1989) and an episode of "Tales from the Crypt" (1989). She then married Howard Deutch. She continued filming Back to the Future Part III (1990), Montana (1990) (TV), and Article 99 (1992). Lea then took a break to stay home with her first born, Madeline. She jumped back into acting in Dennis the Menace (1993), where she says she just played herself. Then it was on to The Beverly Hillbillies (1993), Stolen Babies (1993) (TV), The Little Rascals (1994), and The Substitute Wife (1994) (TV). In 1994, she had her second child, Zoey. Lea then went into filming The Unspoken Truth (1995) (TV). It was then that she was first given the script of a new NBC sitcom, "Caroline in the City" (1995). It was probably the best decision Lea ever made. She won a People's Choice Award for best actress in a new sitcom. Unfortunately, with all of NBC's problems, Caroline in the City kept being moved to a worse and worse time slot, giving it horrible ratings. The show ended after only four seasons. Bad ideas from the creators (Julia, etc.) didn't help either. Lea quickly went onto The Right to Remain Silent (1996) (TV), The Unknown Cyclist (1998), and "A Will of Their Own" (1998). She also guest-starred in "Friends" (1994) in The One with the Baby on the Bus as Caroline Duffy, and on "The Larry Sanders Show" (1992). Lea also did some stage work, including starring as Sally Bowles in Cabaret. The show toured, and also appeared on Broadway. She then did The Vagina Monologues in L.A. For Hatari! (1962), he wrote a brief piece of incidental music to accompany a scene where a baby elephant is taken for a walk. To Mancini's astonishment, it became an international hit as "Baby Elephant Walk", and was re-recorded by a large number of artists and in many styles.
No less prolific a recording artist than he was a film/TV composer, his many albums, mostly for RCA, sold in the millions, and included: "Music from 'Peter Gunn'" (1958), "Music from 'Mr. Lucky'" and "The Mancini Touch" (1959), "Combo" and "Mr. Lucky Goes Latin" (1960), "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961), "Our Man in Hollywood" and "Charade" (1963), "The Concert Sound of Henry Mancini", "The Best of Mancini" and "The Pink Panther" (1964), "'The Second Time Around' and Other Favorites" (1966), "Mancini '67" and "Encore!: More of the Concert Sound of Henry Mancini" (1967), "A Warm Shade of Ivory" (1968), "Six Hours Past Sunset" (1969), and "Big Screen - Little Screen" (1972). He also had a Number 1 single with "Love Theme from 'Romeo and Juliet'" in 1969.
Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.
He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6821 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
Was reassigned to the band unit shortly after he joined the U.S. Army in World War II. This actually saved his life, as the unit to which he'd originally been assigned was wiped out to a man in the Battle of the Bulge.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio but brought up in Pennsylvania, where he played the flute in a local band as a youth before sending some arrangements to 'Benny Goodman (I)'. Goodman offered him a job and after serving in WWII he joined the rearranged Miller band. In 1952 he was given a two-week assignment at Universal to work on an Abbott and Costello film and ended up staying for six years. Success with the 'Glenn Miller (I)' Story allowed him to score many other films, helping along the way to change the style of film background music by injecting jazz into the traditional orchestral arrangements of the 1950s. He was nominated for 18 Oscars and won four; in addition, he won 20 Grammys and 2 Emmys, made over 50 albums and had 500 works published. Mancini collaborated extensively with 'Blake Edwards' - firstly on TV's "Peter Gunn", then on Breakfast at Tiffany which won him two Oscars; he won further Oscars for the titles song for Days Of Wine and Roses and the score for Victor/Victoria; he will be best remembered for the theme tune for The Pink Panther.
